Meet the Staff


North Central Cyclery is owned by Paul Family Cyclery, LLC which includes Lyle, Marty, Michael and Justeen Paul. The business was purchased on 10/29/15. Lyle and Marty, Michael's parents, have lived in DeKalb County for 40 years.

Michael and Justeen are lifelong athletes raised in DeKalb County and graduates of Sycamore High School, and Justeen an NIU alumni. Both are avid cyclists and triathletes and Ironman finishers, with Michael holding 11 IM medals as well as a history in BMX racing. Mike and Justeen have strong ties to the community as a whole, as well as to the local running, cycling and triathlon community.

Michael and Justeen returned to the Sycamore/DeKalb area with plans of opening their own business…one they were both passionate about. A business that would fit their combined strengths, passion and match their activity, and at the same time benefit others, individually and community wide. As cyclists, and triathletes/multisport athletes, Michael and Justeen understand the needs of the athlete, as well as the benefit of activity in general for the person as a whole. The entire Paul family believes are excited and committed to serving DeKalb County with the best service possible.

Michael Paul - Owner/General Manager

Mike practiced as a Chiropractor in Central Illinois for over 10 years. He opened his solo practice in January 1998 and built it to one of the busiest practices in central Illinois. He retired from Chiropractic in February 2008. Since that time Michael has worked in local and independent regional sales markets for Medical Sales as well as independent sales rep for soft goods to bicycle stores in the Chicagoland area. Most recently Michael has managerial and training experience in the running specialty field, managing floor sales, employee training, and general management of multiple retail locations. Michael will be managing the store and using his education and experience as Chiropractor to benefit customers with proper bicycle fitting and his extensive business and retail background to manage the store on a daily basis. Mike is one of our Trek Precision Fit experts certified by Trek. Mike is also a member of the Sycamore Sunrise Rotary.

Justeen Paul - Owner/Marketing/Sales

Justeen is currently a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and CADC with a specialty in women specific treatment. Her professional background spans 26 years of social work, clinical supervision, and program administration in the fields of Child Welfare, Substance Abuse Treatment, and Mental Health. Justeen continues her full time position outside of NCC but is in the store daily to help on the floor, manage displays and proper branding, working with clothing and other accessories, and media/marketing manager. She is also active forming connections with programs and community projects that benefit the health and human spirit through cycling and outdoor physical activity.

Chris B - Mechanic

Chris is our head mechanic with advanced certification with Trek Certified Service and Bosch. He is a full time firefighter in Elgin, working his "off days" at the shop. Chris is a triathlete and mountain bike enthusiast, riding year round. Chris is also an Ironman, as well as a competitor is several 70.3 Ironman competitions and Olympic distance triathlons. Chris spent 3 days in Greensboro, AL building his own single speed bamboo bike (pictured). Chris is one of our Trek Precision Fit experts certified by Trek.

Thalia S - Sales

Thalia is a full time Northern Illinois University student studying English Literature and Secondary Education. She is a member of the all female a cappella group, The Harmelodics. Thalia is a commuting and fitness cyclist. Thalia is working at NCC part time on the sales floor.

Cody B - Mechanic

Cody is a full time Northern Illinois University student, studing Computer Science. Cody enjoys biking with the family and commuting places by bike. Cody's loud and in your face demeanor is refreshing at the store. Sometimes he gets overly boistrous and we have to tell him to calm down....He is working part time as a mechanic.

Danny S - Mechanic

Danny is an Army Specialist that served our country in Afghanistan with the 4th Infantry Division. He is also red belt in Tae Kwon Do. Danny grew up in the area riding and working on bikes, riding mostly road and cyclocross. Danny is quiet and tells us, "I'll let my wrench skills do the talking."

Corinn S - Sales

Corinn is a Junior at Sycamore High School, and hopes to study Forensic Pathology in the future. Corinn enjoys casual cycling and helping others. She is active in the school choir and LOVES to sing all day at work! Corinn works part time on the sales floor.
